What is a Happy Box?

There are so many ways we can answer the question ‘What is a Happy Box?’

A Happy Box is a tool to allow women in remote communities to take care of themselves, their hygiene and their health.

A Happy Box is a moment of joy in the day of a women who often goes without. It’s a way to tell her that she matters, and that she deserves to practice self care.

It’s an even a reason to bring women in remote communities together to share their stories, lean on each other and find a sense of empowerment that comes with banding together with others.

However, in the most practical sense, a Happy Box is filled with around 10 personal care items that many of us consider basic necessities while a lot of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in remote Australia often go without. These items are essential for not only practicing good hygiene and taking care of our health, they’re also items that encourage women to feel good about herself.

If you’re wanting to get involved in our mission and send your own Happy Box to a woman in a remote community, here’s an idea of some of the items you can include;

  • Deodorant

  • Shampoo

  • Conditioner

  • Hair brush

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Pads and panty liners
